Freebie Friday: Win a SIGNED copy of Boneland by Alan Garner!
Posted by: Mary Burkey
The 2012 World Fantasy Lifetime Achievement award-winner has an autographed audiobook for your library! What a great addition to your collection – or perhaps a terrific auction item for your next library fundraiser. Naxos Audio is donating the signed copy of the just-released Boneland, read by actor Robert Powell at the request of Alan Garner himself. for one fortunate public or school library. Plus, two lucky fantasy lovers will win free downloads of the first two titles in the classic Weirdstone Trilogy for their personal collection. Just leave a comment below, either with the name of your library or a note letting me know you’d like to win the download. I’ll leave the window of opportunity open until October 5th for this awesome offer from Naxos. Boneland is Alan Garner’s continuation of the story thread which began in his first and enduringly popular fantasy children’s novel, The Weirdstone of Brisingamen. The Weirdstone was published in 1960 (it has never been out of print since), and The Moon of Gomrath followed, in 1963.
Don’t know much about Garner, the man described by Philip Pullman as “the most important British writer of fantasy since Tolkien?” Read Ursala K. LeGuin’s review of Boneland in The Guardian or Alan Garner, a Life in Books by Alison Flood.
Garner’s fans can take a ramble along Alderley Edge, Cheshire, England, where many of his works, including The Weirdstone Trilogy, are drawn from local legends and locations. Watch the 23 minute video here http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0122k8h

I would like to throw my name into the hat to win the free downloads and, also, to nominate my library (Brosville/Cascade Branch, Pittsylvania County Public Library) to win the signed copy of Boneland. I’d never heard of this series until I read this review but now I want to read/listen to it. Thanks for the giveaways.

For my own selfish reasons, I would like to be considered for the free download of Boneland.

I’d like a copy – either for the school library in Scotland where I was librarian for nearly twenty years(to make them ashamed for no longer having a librarian!) or to cheer me up for learning the above news!

For cold toes in bed forty years ago with wizards….and cold ears this morning with bone land.
