2011 Audies Award Winners
Posted by: Mary Burkey

Keith Richard’s Life (Hachette Audio) is Audiobook of the Year & Here in Harlem (Live Oak Media) Distinguished Achievement in Production – top honors among 28 other winners, as named by the Audio Publishers Association during the gala Audies Award ceremony held on May 24th at the The TimesCenter in New York City. From an initial record-breaking roster of over 1,100 submissions, the 2011 finalists were submitted to a critical evaluation by audiobook experts. The winners were announced last night during an event that has all the excitement of the Oscars – but at a much faster pace. I was unable to attend this year, but followed the festivities via Twitter – you can replay the event by searching for #audies2011 or listening to the upcoming recorded show on SiriusXM (date to be announced).

I was sad to notice that there wasn’t a special award this year for most dedicated audiobook narrator. If I had been a judge for that award, I would have most certainly given it to Katy Kellgren, who attended the Tuesday evening award ceremony, where she was nominated for TEN Audies, and also served as a panelist at the Audio Publishers Association Conference on Monday – following her wedding on Saturday!

Here is the complete list of 2011 Audies Award categories and winners, complied from the Twitterverse – look for an official press release from the Audio Publishers Association once they’ve recovered from the gala:

  1. Brenda Kahn Says:

Two fine winners in the children/ YA department. I absolutely loved both The Rock and the River and The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate.

  2. Syrie James Says:

My novel THE SECRET DIARIES OF CHARLOTTE BRONTE, which reveals the true story of the life and romance of the woman who wrote “Jane Eyre”, is truly a work of my heart– and I’m thrilled that it won an Audie in the Romance category! Bianca Amato’s narration is indeed amazing.
