Absolutely not! I treasure my cassette collection to this day. Admittedly, I have been steadily trying to convert them to digital format for their longevity to continue, but many of my tapes are as much as 30 years old and, due to careful storage and use over the years, are as playable and valuable to me today as they were when they were new.
The format is not the most convenient for a myriad of reasons, storage space required for the same amount of audio information for one thing.
Cassette tapes are destined to be eventually obsolete. The new technology, when as successful and popular as CDs, MP3 files and digital downloads, will always eclipse the old. But, even as a producer of audiobooks and audio presentations myself, (and my audiobooks are primarily meant for digital distribution and downloading), I do not look forward to a day when Cassette Tapes and the equiptment to record/play them on are historic artifacts of a bygone era and technology.
