Booklist’s BEST audiobooks & gift give-aways!
Posted by: Mary Burkey
Early presents! Booklist’s complete list of 2010′s top titles & five chances to win. Thirteen is your lucky number – you’ll find 13 audiobook titles for adults, and 13 for children & teens on the list below, linked to the Booklist reviews for more information, plus 13 days to win. Ever wonder just HOW many titles make the cut in Booklist’s recommended-only-reviews policy? Keir Graff expalins:
Here’s a quick accounting: we published 7,897 reviews, both in the pages of Booklist and on Booklist Online, in 2010. Of those reviews, 880 were starred (about 1 in 10), and 192 were selected for Editors’ Choice (about 1 in 40). Of those 192 Editors’ Choice selections, 8 made Top of the List, which means that any given book, audiobook, video, or database reviewed by Booklist had about a 1 in 1,000 chance of making Top of the List. (The likelihood of material mailed to us being selected for Top of the List is more like 1 in 7,500, if you’re curious.)
Yikes! But even dedicated audiobooks reviewers don’t have time to listen to each & every title released, no matter how many top-of-the-list-lists out there! So here’s how you can enter to win one of five book app+audio downloads from Oceanhouse Media for your iPhone, iPad, or iTouch. Just leave a comment on this post with your favorite audiobook of the year – fiction, nonfiction, adult, or youth – whether you are suggesting a new title or are chiming in with a “me too” to a Booklist choice. I’ll randomly pick two winners on December 24th for How the Grinch Stole Christmas! & The Berenstain Bears’ Christmas Tree. Then on January 6th, I’ll choose three more New Year’s gifts: One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, Hop on Pop, & Dr. Seuss’s ABC . Winners can pass along the gift codes to a lucky youngster, or revisit a childhood favorite in a whole new way. Wondering just how hot toddler apps are? Apple announced the Top 10 apps in the iPhone Books category for 2010: Oceanhouse had 2 of the top 10: #3 Dr. Seuss’s ABC & #7 The Cat in the Hat – and of the Top 10 apps in the iPad Books category for 2010, Oceanhouse had 5 of the top 10: #2 The Cat in the Hat, #5 Green Eggs and Ham, #6 Dr. Seuss’s ABC, #7 The Lorax, #8 One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish. I’ll be focusing more on the whole books-as-app topic in my next Voices in My Head column in Booklist: “Audiobook + App = Digital Synchronicity.”
