Cory Doctorow on audiobooks
Posted by: Mary Burkey

Digital Rights Management and download restrictions are the subject of Doctorow’s Publisher’s Weekly column With a Little Help: Can You Hear Me Now? Doctorow joins fellow author Neil Gaiman in sharing his love of audiobooks, while highlighting the roadblocks that rights management puts in the path of transferring an audiobook author’s work to the ears of listeners. His observations are a must-read for aficionados curious about industry changes as audiobooks morph from physical media to digital downloads. Will we see more authors sharing their works themselves, such as Doctorow’s regular podcast? Or through Podiobooks? Or will more publishers and authors join forces to remove restrictions, as Random House Audio and Doctorow have done?
