Multimedia downloads equal newfangled audiobooks for beginning readers – now with a new mainstream player entering the field. Disney offers an interactive online books subscription service for kids, featuring over 500 titles, ranging from old favorites like Bambi to new pop culture tie-ins such as Hannah Montana. Looks like they’re marketing to parents, with educational benefits like leveled books and an integrated click-a-word dictionary touted as benefits. The service is $8.95 a month or $79.95 a year, for up to three computers, either PC or Mac. I’m kinda surprised that there’s not a smartphone option, or an iPhone app. Or is that taking this whole digital books for kids thing a bit too far?
