A sad day

The library world has lost two wonderful women. Kate McClelland, President-Elect of the Association for Library Service to Children, and Kathy Krasniewicz, Perrot Memorial Library head of youth services, were both killed in a tragic accident as passengers in a taxi on the way to the airport following the American Library Association Mid-Winter Conference in Denver. I will always remember Kathy’s wise and conscientious evaluation of audiobooks when I was a new member of the Notable Children’s Recordings Committee. Her charm and warm friendship welcomed me into the ALSC community, and I cannot imagine the world without her. My thoughts are with Kate and Kathy’s family members, and with the young people of the Perrot Memorial Library, who must all be inconsolable.
