Holiday Shopping: Best audiobook MP3 players
Posted by: Mary Burkey

Planning your after-Thanksgiving shopping? Looking for an MP3 player for audiobook listening?

Here’s cnet’s Holiday Gift Guide for MP3 & portable video players (including iPods), with some headphone suggestions. You can compare the suggestions to an earlier cnet article on Best MP3 players for audiobooks. There’s also a cnet Forum on Best, current MP3 players for audiobooks. I enjoyed this article by Jasmine France on Library-Worthy MP3 players. Thanks to cnet for keeping audiobook listeners in mind when reviewing players!

Here are my additions to the recommended list: the Creative MuVo T200 – a great little player you can throw against a wall or punish with a trip through the washer & dryer, and it will still work. Perfect for teachers or school libraries to buy & circulate to students! I keep a low-cost SanDisk Sansa m250 in my gym bag. Check online for some great deals on the Sansa. My husband’s gym-bag favorite is the Creative Zen V Plus, as he likes the built-in FM radio. You also may want to take a look at Audible’s recommend device list, NetLibrary’s tested players, or OverDrive Media’s compatable device list (be sure to learn how many WMA & MP3 titles are available for free download through your public library).

Happy shopping!

What’s the story on Title Player and its upgrade?
Their website claims 500-600 titles, but only displays a couple of pages. Is this format viable? We have postponed adding Playaways to the library collection to see if the smaller format (with an FM transmitter) catches on. Looks like their might have been a glitch.

I am wondering about Title Player as well! The web site doesn’t seem very robust. I’ll see if they are exhibiting at ALA Mid-Winter and report in!
