Counterfit audiobooks in the U.K.
Posted by: Mary

Here’s an article on audiobooks being counterfeited and sold on eBay as bootleg CDs. Lemony Snicket, Harry Potter, Narnia, and Lord of the Rings are mentioned as top sellers. And the U.K. Publisher’s Associations report on e-piracy interestingly states that Science Fiction & Fantasy “accounts for most of the volume of pirated audio books.” Arrr!

When I first saw this post, I imagined some shady types blackmailing non-union voice talent into recording knockoff versions–and some unsuspecting buyer pressing play and then shouting, “Hey! That’s not Jim Dale!” But the reality of e-piracy is, alas, more pedestrian than that.
